Role Description:

Optimum Patient Care is offering a remote based role with flexible working hours to support the re-formatting of medical free text data into our research database (OPCRD).

This position would suit students completing a science-based course who can work autonomously, at pace, with high attention to detail.

The role is offered on a part time, ongoing basis and/or full time over the summer break.

Full training will be provided along with a laptop for working on our remote network. The position would suit those with a science related background in research, bio-informatics, biomedical sciences, psychology or medicine.

Future opportunities are available to progress a research related career with our innovative organisation.

About the role:

Health data research frequently relies on patient data stored in electronic health records (EHRs). This data may be structured such that clinical observations, diagnosis or treatments etc are defined by specific codes e.g., code 71620000; fracture of femur.

This information can readily be anonymised, processed, and stored to be used for research or quality improvement purposes. In contrast, unstructured medical data or ‘free text’ refers to clinical information written in words e.g. ‘Miss. B woke up with abdominal pain’.

Mobilising this unstructured data into EHR is important to avoid loss of valuable patient information.
